Biography

Betty Papson is a native of Maryland's Eastern Shore, residing in Oxford, Maryland with her husband, Nick. She is excited to be part of the burgeoning artist's colony that is the Eastern Shore.
She graduated with a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, MD, and is a member of Easton's Working Artists' Forum, the Academy of Arts in Easton, and the Dorchester Center for the Arts.
As a fine artist, Betty began her career executing pen & ink house portraits. Currently she works primarily in oil and occasionally in acrylics. Her work is included in many private collections. Over the years, she has pursued other avenues of creative expression ranging from pastel painting, to paper making, and collage, as well as crafts such as soap, and jewelry making.
Understanding that her artwork is a lifelong pursuit that is constantly evolving, Betty strives to celebrate the natural world around her and the God who created it all.
"For me, the best way to understand color and design is to observe nature and then take that understanding into the studio. I am continually awed with the beauty and mystery of nature – especially the local water ways and how sunlight dances across the water, the everchanging sky patterns and, of course, as an avid gardener, flowers. What a wonderful world we live in. My hope is that my love of these subjects will show in my paintings."
